Koku is rice money and is the currency in the game.
Fields and settlements only provide income if they are attached to a domain also known as a Han.
Taxes are automatically collected at the end of autumn.
The tax yield per grid varies according to the type of terrain.
A steward can be established in a mansion. A steward set up in a mansion generates 5000 koku income.
Farms can only be build on ricepaddies and wheat fields. Farms cannot be build at rivers, mountains, forests, swamps, and settlements.
Each Shoen of farmland provides a basic income. A wheat field provides 150 koku annually. A mulberry field, tea field, and cotton field provide 400 koku annually.
The income of ricepaddies is determined by the soil fertility of the land. There are 3 grades of fertility:

Not considering the yield from towns and trade, thus it follows that the total annual yield from farming is 7,169,500 koku. Of the total farm yield 85.5% is from rice. With 162 clans this gives an average annual yield of about 44,258 koku per clan. That is roughly equivalent to recruiting the worth of 65 cavalry units.
A mining complex provides a large income.
